Finding a board and group of commu- nity advisors and volunteers who believe in the organization and can carry the word out into the community and bring awareness to the cause is a big step to finding financial support. “I took advantage of every opportu- nity to raise awareness of the organiza- tion,” says Estridge. By 1995, with 501c3 in hand, Estridge had a formed a steering committee and board that were ready to move forward. “We had a feasibility study done,” she says, “and it let us know that if we were going to do this it had to be big, bold and world class.
